Prompted by my time at the Artists Off Grid residency in northern Colorado, the absence of the human body in the composition challenged me to think about how to describe forms in nature as the primary subject in my work rather than a supporting environment. Ever conscious of the absence of a depicted human, these environments pull flesh-tones into the rocks, and pull the eye of the viewer on a compositional path that weaves toward a horizon.

WEIR FARM

In June 2025, I was an artist-in-residence at Weir Farm National Historical Park in Wilton, CT. Inspired by the spirit of experimentation and influence from nature grounded in J. Alden Wier’s relationship to American Impressionism, I set to explore moments in the landscape where humans throughout history had changed, cultivated, coerced, and/or celebrated their environment.

A National Park For Art, Weir Farm is home to J. Alden Wier’s family and friends and is a point of origin for American Impressionism. The park’s founding statement includes continued support for artists-in-response to this environment, so their Artist-In-Residence program is a key part of their mission. I am most grateful to the Friends of Weir Farm for their generous and thoughtful passion for this program!

This is a developing page as the work from this residency progresses!
