I enjoy teaching art history, painting, and helping artists with professional practices. Whether in a classroom or in individual lessons, I believe my responsibility and privilege as a teacher is to instill in my students resilience, hope, and bravery. This I do by cultivating curiosity, and by equipping my students with analyzation methods to discover self-awareness.
Involving the students’ participation at the onset of the course to establish an engaging classroom atmosphere within safe and positive parameters, I highlight intended learning outcomes supported by real-life examples as a "vision statement" for the class. In assignments, I also employ a peppering of self-reflection questions. The students are then able to subjectively envision the course's goals which keeps them personally invested in reaching the learning outcomes.
Having received my education in the liberal arts, I endeavor to create connections across history, between people, weaving through schools of thought and by by using visual, aural, musical, and verbal touchpoints. These I present to the students so they may recall these connections to increase their quality of life and desire to learn.
