🎨 A Virtual - and Actual - Truckload of Art! 🚚
β€œWe travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls.” β€• AnaΓ―s Nin

Dear Friends,

In February, my husband and I did a "quick" road trip... from Long Island to Colorado. It wasn't the most giddy, as road trips go - I mostly napped and my husband mostly pressed on. We passed through PA in the night; Ohio, Kentucky and Illinois under grey skies. The roads were clear, and as soon as we had been absorbed into the vast west of Kansas, the only ripple in the seamless landscape was the blurry blue line of mountains rising steadily from the horizon.
We took to the road to deliver artwork to Denver where the "Artists Off Grid" EXHIBITION at Abend Gallery was scheduled this spring. (You may remember me announcing my participation in this residency where I went tent-camping along with 9 delightful artists in Northern Colorado - with no electricity, no service, and no running water. Check out some choice snaps I shared with the hashtag #CharisOffGrid.)
Curated by Caitlin Hurd, this culminating show is a vibrant exposition of over 80 works filled with life, death, wonder, and a profoundly existential stream of creative consciousness which flows through this diverse selection of photographs, monoprints, paintings, drawings, and objects.

I've picked a few of my favorites from the show to share with you, and have also filled this email with the work I have in the exhibition. (Click each image for more details).
  • TOP LEFT: Jenya Chernoff, Wildflowers (2/20), Framed GiclΓ©e print
  • TOP RIGHT: Lisa Lebofsky, Windblown Tree, Oil on paper
  • BOTTOM LEFT: Lindsey Dunnagan, Untitled 3, Watercolor, ink, gold leaf, and acrylic on board
  • BOTTOM RIGHT: Caitlin Hurd, Rainbow Valley, Oil on canvas

"The fascinating aspect of this exhibition is that viewers will see the various forms of this experience in the wild through the eyes of each artist. Although all the artists lived through the two week period together, each noticed and focused on diverse subject matter that drew his or her individual attention β€” a magnificent sweeping landscape, an intricate and delicate wildflower, the mist of the fog, the shadow play on river rocks, or mandala-like compositions of nature’s finds."  β€” Caitlin Hurd

Artists Off Grid in Summer 2018's main objective was to DISCONNECT FROM the online world, to stretch our toes into the earth and our fingers into tubes of paint. Writing this update in Spring 2020, it is now with the sole purpose to CONNECT TO you, online. While we are hunkered down, taking measures to defend against spreading this novel virus, we seek out good and beautiful things still.

With caution and care for their patrons and public in mind, Abend Gallery has postponed the physical Opening Reception for the exhibition, encouraging everyone to view the exhibition online - for now.

But that's not the end of the story...

I am positively delighted to invite you to join me at a VIRTUAL GALLERY TALK that Abend Gallery and Curator Caitlin Hurd have specially set up so that you can check out the artwork and connect with us artists LIVE. Click the photo for more details!

See the WHOLE SHOW on Abend Gallery's website.

Please check out the show online, make plans to listen in on the "Gallery Talk" or share with a friend who may also need to see some powerful images right about now. Every little bit of connectivity (virtual!) helps keep the psychological life raft inflated during this anxious time.

So as the purpose of this "Studio Update" was to directly place this beautiful artwork within your finger (keyboard)'s reach, I'm pleased to have JAM-PACKED it with juicy images for you and I hope it was a bright spot in your inbox today.

Thank you for letting me share my studio news with you!

Infrequently, I gather up a bit of news about my artwork in an e-epistle like this, aiming for a semiannual share in Spring and Autumn. I raise my glass to you, long-distance email reader, for reaching the finish line of  this sparklingly stuffed newsletter!
