🎨 Hic Sunt Dracones? 🐲
Dear fellow travelers,

Since our big move last fall, I haven't been making much art. I tell myself it's mostly because unpacked boxes are still squatting in my studio, but I know I'm lying: the space in my head has been navigating the roads of a new place, a new job; the time I have has been unpacking a revisioned future. Paint colors are employed in the service of walls, not canvases. Accordingly, I've made it a practice to paint every square inch of wall (and ceiling!) by hand with a brush, not a roller. Meditative, yes. Efficient? Ummm...
Oh, the endless palette of paint samples.
Space And Time in an artist's world is often synonymous with "residency," and I'm grateful to announce that these have been awarded to me by the Artist Off Grid residency program, encouraging me to step out of my present landscape of hand-painted walls and lengthy to-do lists to make actual art. In a few days, I'll be heading into the wilds of Colorado - and my own mind - to focus, re-center, expand my horizons. The work that I'll be doing on this residency will then fertilize paintings which will be shown in an exhibition at Abend Gallery in Spring 2019.

I've recorded some of the hopes and fears I have about my FIRST residency in a post on my website: thinking about the space beyond the known map of one's plans to where fantastic beasts might exist. I will also be writing and collecting during the residency, but will not be able to share with you until I return.
In the middle of July, my online connectivity will be offline. It's funny, don't you think, how 30 years ago we all lived "off grid" (well, almost... you know what I mean) - and we all survived? Where I'm going there will be no electricity, no water, no cell phone service. There will be hills and valleys to hike, trees to meet, art supplies to trek, fellow artists with whom to create, protein bars on which to snack, and vistas to inspire. Come along with me as I explore uncharted territory.
Thank you for letting me share my studio news with you!

I infrequently gather up a bit of news about my artwork in a short e-epistle like this, aiming for a semiannual share in Spring and Autumn. But you may always see what I'm currently up to on my social media. I hope you'll stay connected with me!
